Job Description
A Hi-Rail Machine Operator position at York Rail involves operating a Doosan, Track Excavator, Track Loader and/or various Hi-Rail Machines, to perform essential maintenance and construction activities related to the installation, repair, and rebuilding of track structures. The operator is responsible for ensuring that all operations are conducted safely and efficiently, adhering to established regulations, policies, and procedures.
 
This role requires a proactive approach to safety, including performing equipment safety checks and making emergency adjustments as necessary to avoid potential hazards such as utility lines, other equipment, and falling objects. The operator will also study instructions, plans, and diagrams to establish work requirements, ensuring that all tasks are completed according to specifications. In addition to operating the machines, the Hi-Rail Machine Operator will be responsible for inspecting and maintaining trucks and attached apparatuses, including hi-rail gear and tools.
 
The position requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment in a railroad construction environment, along with mechanical troubleshooting skills and knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems. The role includes driving machines onto truck trailers and unloading them, as well as keeping accurate records of material and equipment usage, along with any problems encountered during operations.
 
The operator must also be able to read and interpret construction specifications and safety documents, ensuring compliance with safety requirements and procedures. The work environment is primarily at construction sites, where the operator will be exposed to various physical demands, including the ability to lift heavy equipment and objects up to 50 pounds, and work in harsh weather conditions. The role requires the use of hands for handling materials and controlling vehicle operations, as well as the ability to sit for extended periods in a closed vehicle.

These positions require travel 100% of the time throughout Canada for extended periods of time. Railway work is VERY physically demanding and will require working in all types of weather conditions and climate.

Applicants must be able to operate one of the following machines:
· Doosan
· Track Excavator
· Track Loader
· Various Hi-Rail Machines

Job Duties
Hi-Rail Machine Operator duties are outlined below, but not limited to:
·         Ability to maintain a valid Driver's License and required training/tickets to ensure
·         Able to always operate Doosan, Track Excavator, Track Loader and/or various Hi-Rail Machines for Rail, as intended and required by the organization
·         Inspects and maintains trucks and attached apparatuses such as hi-rail gear, tools, etc.
·         Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures.
·         Ensuring safety is a priority to yourself, fellow team members, the general public and the assets of the company by following pre-set policies and procedures
·         Compliance with track rules and instructions according to CROR
·         Daily walk around inspection of machines, general housekeeping of machines and minor repairs when required to ensure safe operation
·         Studies instructions, plans, and diagrams to establish work requirements
·         Meet productivity level requirements set out by Supervisors/Foremen
·         Maintaining required paperwork in a neat and accurate manner and adhering to submission deadlines
·         Any other duties or responsibilities that would fall under the realm of your employment as a Hi-Rail Machine Operator and an employee of York Rail

Job Requirements:
·         A minimum of one (1) year of Doosan, Track Excavator, Track Loader and/or various Hi-Rail Machines in Rail Construction
·         In possession of a Valid Class 5 Drivers License
·         Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Background Check
·         Ability to successfully pass a Drug Test
·         Valid CROR Certification is an Asset
·         Ability to work across Canada and be away from home for an extended period of time
·         Knowledge of general construction and workplace safety lifting and handling procedures
·         Fluent in English with the ability to read, write and speak effectively
·         Physically capable of repetitive bending, standing for long periods of time, lifting/carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, repetitive swinging motions and walking on uneven surfaces (approximately 3 miles per day).
·         Ability to work in the elements across all weather conditions (summer heat, rain, dusty conditions, winter cold etc.)

Compensation

$28.84 per hour
