Job Description
Thermite Welder Trackmen is a General Labourer position in Rail construction. The position requires you to build and maintain rail for different clients throughout the Canada. It also requires you to safety build/repair railroad tracks, switches, crossings, etc. via Thermite Welding. Depending on your skill set, other welding opportunities may be available. Being able to work in a construction environment is vital.
These positions require travel 100% of the time throughout Canada for extended periods of time. Railway work is VERY physically demanding and will require working in all types of weather conditions and climate.
You must be able to operate various hand-held/power tools, small equipment and handle hazardous materials. You will be working in a team environment building and maintaining railways in numerous locations across Canada.
Applicants must be able to:
· Pass a criminal background check

· Posses a Valid Class 5 driver’s license
· Consider themselves physically fit
· Work outside in all weather conditions year round
Job Duties
Thermite Welder Trackmen duties will be, but not limited to:
· Meet productivity level requirements set out by Supervisors/Foremen
· Operates equipment and duties per safety policies, rules and regulations
· Experienced in the safe operations of the Thermite Welding Process
· Experienced in the use of Oxygen/Propane cutting and preheating processes
· Experienced in general railroad track work; such as; rail cutting, rail measuring, rail removal, rail replacement, switch configuration, track construction and restoration
· Basic track work duties; spiking, anchoring and surfacing
· Building and maintaining railroads throughout Canada
· Operating hand-held and power tools for various construction.
· Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisors
· Keeps records and prepares reports of maintenance work
· Shoveling rocks and dirt for manual grading of surfaces and clearing ballast
· Clearing railway crossings of brush and tall grass using hand-held tools and equipment
· Snow removal from crossings and right of ways using shovels, backpack blowers, brooms, etc.
· Removal of tie plates from the rail
· Ensuring safety is a priority to yourself, fellow team members, the general public and the assets of the company by following pre-set policies and procedures
· Daily walk around inspection of machines, general housekeeping of machines and minor repairs when required to ensure safe operation
· Working and communicating effectively with York Rail and/or Customers Working Team(s)
· Various loading and unloading of materials such as tools and equipment (spikes, tie plates, joint bars, etc.) to and from various vehicles and machines
· Compliance with track rules and instructions according to CROR
· Filling out required paperwork in a neat and accurate manner and adhering to submission deadlines
· Driving of company vehicles in a responsible, respectful and safe manner
· Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
· Bi-lingual is required. Must be able to fluently read, write and speak both English and French
· 1 Year minimum of Thermite Welding experience in a heavy railroad industrial environment
· Thorough knowledge of the Thermite Welding process and procedure
· Ability to pass a Criminal Background Check & Drug Test
· Valid Class 5 Drivers Licenses
· First Aid Certification is an Asset
· Valid CROR Certification is an Asset
· Ability to travel and work across Canada based on various schedules
· Knowledge of Construction and Workplace Safety lifting and handling procedures
· Fluent in English with the ability to read, write and speak effectively
· Physically capable of repetitive bending, standing for long periods of time, lifting/carrying 50 lbs. unassisted, repetitive swinging motions and walking on uneven surfaces (approximately 3 miles per day).
· Ability to work in the elements across all weather conditions (summer heat, rain, dusty conditions, winter cold etc.)
· Willingness to work with hazardous materials such as creosote, lubricants, oil, gasoline and diesel fuel safely
· Ability to be exposed to continuous and regular loud noises
Compensation
$22.00 - $24.00 per hour
